Fat Albert's is located in the beautiful ski resort of Soldeu deep in the Pyrenees Mountains in Andorra. The building was built approximately 300 years ago by a group of farmers belonging to the village and Canillo. Today the same families are still here. It was built as a barn to house the cows, goats and sheep in the winter months.

We have preserved as much as possible the original features. In the restaurant you are actually sitting below the original floor level as we had to excavate approximately 1 metre to gain regualtion height for public access and to open as a restaurant. You can see in some areas on the manger walls the marks of the original floor. The ceiling is original, as it was 300 years ago, above the round table in the corner of the restaurant.

The remainder in some areas was changed about 150 years ago and of course in 1995 when we converted the barn into this aesthetic restaurant and bar. The old dated stone (situated to the bottom of the small gothic window) was the date when lead piped water was installed. The wooden mangers in the restaurant are original. The water reserve which is no longer in use is situated 100 meters up the hill behind the barn.

The bar upstairs which has a separate entrance is well worth a visit - we are sure you will appreciate the attention to detail. We have kept as many of the original features as possible and have created a Gothic design to add another very interesting feature. The bar area was originally used for storing hay and other food for the animals below, and in the tobacco plant season the wooden beams on the ceiling of the bar were used for hanging and drying the leaves. There were gaps along the edge of the floor upstairs so the hay could be dropped into the mangers below.
